Magnet Designation®

ANCC Magnet Recognition Program logo Magnet Designation® is the highest and most prestigious credential a healthcare organization can achieve for nursing excellence and quality patient care.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center first achieved Magnet recognition in December 2011, becoming the first Magnet-designated hospital in the South Bay. The organization was subsequently redesignated in 2016 and 2020.

Most recently, Torrance Memorial earned its fourth Magnet designation and was awarded Magnet with Distinction, the highest level of recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This elite designation places Torrance Memorial among the top-performing Magnet hospitals in the nation and recognizes exceptional nursing leadership, patient outcomes, and clinical excellence.

What Magnet Recognition Means

Magnet recognition is more than an award—it reflects a sustained commitment to excellence in nursing practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care. Hospitals that achieve Magnet status demonstrate superior clinical outcomes, higher patient satisfaction, and strong nurse engagement.

As Magnet standards continue to evolve, Torrance Memorial nurses remain committed to advancing professional practice, innovation, and quality improvement across all areas of care.

Accredited Practice Transition Program with Distinction

The Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP) sets the standard for residency and fellowship programs that support registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) as they transition into new clinical practice settings.
