During this time, the physicians, nurses and staff at Torrance Memorial
want to assure patients and the community that your health and safety
is our top priority. For this reason we have adopted many new protocols
and policies to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.
Q: What changes has Torrance Memorial made to ensure the safety of all
our patients? What specific changes have been made in the Emergency Department?
Torrance Memorial has implemented a number of new measures to ensure the
safety of our patients while in our care. Across the organization, we
are screening and temperature checking all patients and employees entering
our facility, and have implemented infection prevention distancing measures
to significantly lower potential exposure to COVID-19.
Specifically in the ED we have set up a new triage area to separate COVID-19
patients from the general population. All patients who test positive for
the virus are placed in isolation rooms. Our staff wear appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE) as recommended by the CDC.
Q: Should patients delay care for fear of getting COVID-19?
Patients should not defer medical care, especially emergency care. Our
emergency department is prepared and capable of handling all emergency
needs safely during this current health crisis. Don’t delay treatment.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of stroke or heart attack, please
call 911 immediately.
Q: How is the ED prepared to handle both COVID and Non-COVID patients?
Torrance Memorial emergency physicians and staff bring years of training
to manage any infectious disease. Our team is provided with an adequate
supply of PPE to handle a surge in COVID-19 cases, and rooms are thoroughly
cleaned and disinfected between patients. Meanwhile, the entire medical
center continues to maintain physical distancing and visitor limitation
policies to lower potential exposure to COVID-19.
Q: What is the current state of Torrance Memorial and has our COVID-19
case volume has slowed?
Over the past several weeks the number of COVID-19 patients has been very
stable. Most recently we have seen a slight decrease. Social distancing
measures in the community seem to be flattening the curve. Although we
have not seen a surge in patients, we are well prepared to respond in
the event patient volume increases.
Torrance Memorial is here to keep our community and patients safe and healthy.
Don’t delay treatment. If you need medical attention call your doctor,
and if you are in need of emergency treatment, call 911 or visit your
closest emergency room. Thank you, and stay safe.
