This past Tuesday at Torrance Memorial, 91-year-old Mimi Brody was honored
for her 50 years of volunteer service. The morning started with a social
hour as staff, volunteers, family and friends mingled over refreshments
including pastries and champagne. The Health Conference Center was charmingly
decorated with balloons, flowers and many guests wore their favorite tea
hats. After being seated, speeches and a slideshow honoring Mimi’s
volunteering journey were presented. As a faithful Bruin fan, Mimi happily
made her way onstage to receive a bouquet of roses as UCLA's fight
song played. The celebration continued with a tea party lunch of finger
sandwiches, pasta salad and fruit. Mimi’s anniversary celebration
was then concluded by a raffle and fashion show.

With over 29,000 logged hours, Mimi Brody is Torrance Memorial’s
longest-serving volunteer. After moving to Torrance, she decided to start
volunteering her free-time while her kids were in school. The year was
1969, 2 years before the current Torrance Memorial Medical Center was
even built. She has had many different roles through the years, but today
Mimi serves as the Auxiliary’s gift shop co-chair. She encourages
others to give back to their community and tells of the satisfaction it
brings. Torrance Memorial is so grateful for Mimi’s incredible commitment
and service!
