TORRANCE MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER EARNS
SECOND STRAIGHT ‘A’ FOR PATIENT SAFETY
TORRANCE, CALIF., April 24, 2018 –
The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C.-based organization aiming to improve health care quality
and safety for consumers and purchasers, today released the new
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Torrance Memorial Medical Center was one of 750 awarded an ‘A’
for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest
safety standards in the United States. The Safety Grade assigns an A,
B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance
in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients
in their care.
“While it’s hard enough to achieve a single “A”
grade, it’s even harder to maintain it,” Erica Mobley, director
of operations, Leapfrog Group, said. ”To repeat outstanding patient
safety performance requires organizational commitment, leadership buy-in,
thoughtful processes and good communication. It also requires vigilance
– a focused mindfulness around making sure that patients and their
safety really do come first when they enter your hospital’s doors.
Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital
Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data
to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year.
It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
