FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORRANCE MEMORIAL’S SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM RECEIVES COMPREHENSIVE
ACCREDITATION
Torrance, Calif., Nov. 7, 2017 – Torrance Memorial Medical Center has again received a Comprehensive
Center accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic
and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP),
in partnership with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric surgery
(ASMBS). The MBSAQIP accreditation recognizes the hospital’s commitment
to providing and supporting quality improvement and patient safety efforts
for metabolic and bariatric surgery patients.
“We are very satisfied with our accomplishment. The bariatric team
and hospital administration have worked really hard to make this happen,” said
Aileen Takahashi, MD, medical director, Bariatric Surgery, Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
“The MBSAQIP accreditation is an affirmation of our bariatric program’s
excellence and our ongoing dedication to patients in need.”
Developed by the ACS and the ASMBS, the MBSAQIP works to advance safe,
high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients through the accreditation
of bariatric surgical centers. A bariatric surgical center achieves accreditation
following a rigorous review process during which it proves that it can
maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice.
Established more than ten years ago, Torrance Memorial’s bariatric
program attracts patients with its team of dedicated experts, thorough
patient education, caring support groups, and intensive follow-up care.
Currently performing more than 400 bariatric surgeries each year, Torrance
Memorial provides customized surgical plans that fit patients’ individual
needs to help them achieve their weight loss goals.
