Eating healthy foods in the right portions is an essential part of losing
weight. Here are some tips for healthy eating to keep you on the right
track! For additional help and guidance, consult with a medical professional
such as a dietician.
Drink a glass of water before every meal. Drinking water results in a sense of fullness, therefore helping you to
consume fewer calories during your meal.
Practice portion control. Simple things like putting your food on a smaller plate, taking smaller
bites, and putting the fork down between each bite will help you manage
how much you eat.
Build a healthy meal. Make sure your meal consists of vegetables, grains, fruits, proteins,
and dairy. Be sure that vegetables and grains make up more of your plate
than fruits and proteins. Also keep your dairy serving to a minimum.
Eat Breakfast. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, is not the answer to losing weight.
Breakfast provides your body with essential nutrients, and when you miss
out on those nutrients, you are less likely to compensate for them in
later meals.
Read food labels. You’d be surprised to see some of the ingredients that make up your
favorite foods. Check fat, sodium, and calories content to decide if it’s
the right choice.
Avoid drinking sodas, and when you do, drink diet. Many people call sodas “empty calories” because they are full
of sugar. They also provide no nutritional value. Water is always the best bet!
Don’t eat while distracted. Avoid eating while watching TV or surfing the web. When you’re not
paying attention, you have a higher chance of eating more. By sitting
down to eat and chewing slowly, you’re more likely to avoid mindless eating.
Wait 15 minutes before you eat another snack. It takes some time for your body to realize it has been fed. Wait a bit
to see if you’re still hungry.
