Cancer Care Coordination

Teamwork is the heart of our cancer care program at Torrance Memorial; coordination of care is essential to the success of your cancer treatment. Though our physicians communicate with one another daily or multiple times a day, we also have a formalized structure for collaboration. Called the Tumor Board, this is a weekly meeting where our physicians come together to review individual cancer patient cases, discuss various treatment options and also to examine the latest research findings pertinent to the cases being presented.

This meeting includes specialists from surgery, pathology, radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery, medical oncology, pulmonology, and urology. Oncology nurse navigators, other members of the oncology team, and the patient’s primary care and treating physicians typically attend Tumor Board. Together the group arrives at a recommended course of action for each patient’s treatment.
