Cancer Screenings

Routine cancer screenings can save your life. Staying current on your recommended screenings can help detect certain types of cancers in their early stages—when the disease is most treatable. Even if you are not at a high risk of developing cancer, your doctor may recommend routine screenings based on your age and other lifestyle factors. Common screenings include:

  • Skin cancer. Skin cancer screening is recommended for people of any age who are at high risk of developing skin cancer. Your doctor will let your know how often you should be screened depending on your individual risk factors.
    • Need a dermatologist? Call 310-517-4700 for a referral.
  • Breast cancer. Mammograms, or imaging tests used to detect breast cancer, are recommended for all women starting at age 45. Talk to your doctor about how often you should have a mammogram.

  • Pelvic cancer. Pelvic exams screen for female reproductive cancers and may include a Pap test. Women should have a pelvic exam every year and a Pap test every three years to screen for cervical cancer.
    • Don’t have a gynecologist? Call 310-517-4700 for a referral.
