Program Overview

The Children's Nursing Symposium will update in the areas of gastrointestinal infections, healthcare needs of foster adolescents transitioning into adulthood, high Cholesterol in the pediatric population, common surgical consultations, basic first aide, gang violence and risky behaviors, and nursing service recovery.

Participants will:

  • Identify two causes of high cholesterol in adolescents
  • List two ways to assist families at high risk for gang violence
  • Describe two assessment techniques in identifying the healthcare needs of an emancipated minor
  • List two physical indicators on nursing assessment that indicate small bowel obstruction
  • List two treatment modalities of suspected bone fracture
  • Identify three physical signs and symptoms of MRSA

Education Hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, CEP 300, for 8 contact hours. Clinical Education will award 8 CEU's.


Includes lectures, continental breakfast, lunch, and syllabus.

Limited enrollment at the door. Enrollment can be accepted only with program fees. A full refund will be given if this program is canceled. No fees will be refunded if the participant cancels within 48 hours of the program. Cancellations prior to 48 hours will receive a refund, minus a $20 processing fee.

The Hoffman Health Conference Center is located on Medical Center Drive between Lomita Blvd. and Skypark Drive. Parking is free in the adjacent in the West Parking structure.

From the Westside or the San Fernando Valley

Take the 405 Freeway South, exit Hawthorne Boulevard, and turn right. Go approximately 4.5 miles and turn left on Lomita Boulevard. The medical center will be on your right.

From Long Beach or Orange County

Take the 405 Freeway North. Transition to the Harbor Freeway (110) South toward San Pedro. Exit Sepulveda Boulevard and turn right, go about 2 miles and turn left on Crenshaw Boulevard; go about 1 mile and turn right on Lomita Boulevard; go about 1 mile and the medical center will be on your left.
