This beautiful, state-of-the-art facility was the culmination of 7 years
of planning, building and testing—not to mention untold hours of
good, old-fashioned hard work.
Equipped with natural light, artwork, and sophisticated technology, the
390,000-square-foot Lundquist Tower appears to be more like a world-class
hotel than a hospital. The 7-story, $480 million facility houses 256 private
rooms, 18 surgical and interventional treatment rooms and a café
and coffee bar with seating for 200.
The eight-year plan to build the Lundquist Tower was approved and led by
CEO Craig Leach in 2007. The purpose of building a new tower was two-fold:
to give the South Bay an earthquake-sound building and also the ability
to better serve an increasing aging population. This vision was driven
by the hospital's shared mission to provide the Torrance and South
Bay community with the best in patient-centered care.
One year ahead of schedule and $10 million under the original budget, the
$480 million building offically opened for patient care on November 16,
2014. Torrance Memorial staff, physicians and volunteers came together
to move its first 150 patients into the new and extensively improved facility.
Today, the Lundquist Tower serves as a landmark for health care in the
South Bay area.
