2003
Spring- Karl B. McMillen donates $5.3 million to Torrance Memorial to establish
the Thelma McMillen Center for Dependency, a comprehensive outpatient
program to treat patients who suffer from alochol and drug addictions.
Summer- Torrance Memorial Medical Center is selected as one of the Top 100 U.S.
Hospitals for Cardiovascular Services in the nation.
Fall- Construction begins for the West Campus Tower.
Winter- Torrance Memorial Medical Center honors 30 years of burn care.
2004
Summer- Torrance Memorial gets the highly advanced intensity modulated radiation
(IMRT), which substantially reduces risk to normal tissues when receiving
chemotherapy.
Winter- After more than 2 years in the making, the new 95,000 square foot West
Tower is completed.
2005
Spring- Phase I of the Family Birth Center is completed.
Summer- Torrance Memorial honored in being named among the Top 100 U.S. Hospitals
for the fourth time.
Fall- Torrance Memorial is ranked among the best in California for heart surgery
mortality rates.
Winter- Torrance Memorial honored as "South Bay's Best Medical Facility"
in the Daily Breeze reader's poll.
2006
Summer- Craig Leach is named as president and CEO of Torrance Memorial Medical
Center. Minimally-invansive techniques are developed to remove fibroid tumors.
Fall- The Da Vinci surgical system is introduced at Torrance Memorial, using
advanced robotics and special 3-D imaging to transform a surgeon's
hands and fingers in highly maneuverable instruments for minimally invasive
surgical procedures.
Winter- Torrance Memorial honored at South Bay's Best Hospital in the Daily
Breeze reader's poll. The Vasek Polak Research Program is offically
designated as a clinical research network by the IECRN, charting new directions
for accelerating medical discoveries.
2007
Spring- Public lauch of a $75 million Capital Campaign while the
Growing for Our Community campaign totals more than $42 million in fundraising. Richard and Melanie
Lundquist announce a $13 million gift, the largest donation in Torrance
Memorial's history.
Summer- Torrance Memorial is the first hospital in the South Bay to receive certification
as an approved STEMI center, allowing them to accept patients with a particularly
dangerous type of heart attack. Lifeline, a 24-hour emergency response
system, is added to Torrance Memorial's services.
Fall- Torrance Memorial unveils its state-of-the-art surgical suite, promoted
as the most advanced endovascular suite in the country.
Winter- Announcement of a new 2,000 square foot breast diagnositc center at the
Peninsula Center in Rolling Hills Estates.
2008
Fall- The Lemkin Pavilion is opened and the Endoscopy Center expanded. Plans
to open up a 370,000 sqaure foot
Hospital of Tomorrow is announced.
Winter- A key feature in preventing infection, the laminar flow air-handling system,
is installed in the 5 new surgical suites. Torrance Memorial is recognized
by the American Heart Association with a Get With the Guidelines 2008
Silver Performance Award for improving the health of patients diagnosed
with coronary artery disease.
2009
Spring- The 25th Annual Holiday Festival raises a record-smashing $3.2 million
for the planned new main tower. The Polak Charitable Foundation donates
$1.5 million for a new and more comfortable MRI machine.
Winter- Torrance Memorial is certified by the Joint Commission as a primary stroke
center, giving the medical center our first disease-specific certification.
The Polak Breast Diagnostic center receives the highest national honor
in being named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
2010
Fall- Broke ground on construction of the new Main Tower to be completed by 2015.
2011
Spring- The 27th Annual Holiday Festival raises more than $2.8 million for the
new main tower. New discovery finds that therpeutic hypnothermia helps
minimize collateral damage after cardiac arrest.
2012
Summer- Completed the Torrance Memorial Specialty Center.
Launched the Torrance Memorial Physician Network. Created TMIP (a new Accountable
Care Organization) in conjunction with over 400 Torrance Memorial physicians.
2013
Through the efforts of the Foundation, collected over $9.1 million in cash
and executed new pledges in the amount of $52.1 million.
Completed construction of the new employee parking facility at the "Honeywell
property."
2014
Named as one of the Top 25 Hospitals in California by U.S. News and world Report.
Expanded the Lab Outreach Program to over 45 million in collections, 60,000
patients and 5 lab draw sites.
Summer- Opened the Hermosa Beach medical office site. Opened a new state-of-the-art
Radiation/Oncology Center.
Fall- Opened the new Lundquist Tower in November 2014- Received LABJ Top Medical
Building in L.A. County Award.
