How the Hospital Accrediting Bodies Rate Us

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is the independent nonprofit organization which accredits and rates United States hospitals. Hospitals which are not accredited by JCAHO cannot participate in the Medicare program, nor most health insurance or HMO provider networks.

In 2006, Torrance Memorial underwent a JCAHO accreditation survey which resulted in:

  • Accreditation for the medical center.

In addition, Torrance Memorial is certified or accredited by several other organizations including:

  • American College of Radiology for Mammography Services
  • American College of Radiology for Stereotatic Biopsy program
  • American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • College of American Pathologists, CLIA and American Association of Blood Banks for the clinical laboratory and blood bank
  • Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association conferred verification
  • Board of Registered Nursing Reviews, American Heart Association, Continuing Accrediting Agency for Clinical Science, and the California Medical Association for various education programs for hospital staff and physicians
