Frequently Asked Questions

Here in a question and answer format are responses to some of the most frequently asked questions from our website mail.

Q. How do I get a copy of my birth certificate?

A. Birth certificates are not provided by the hospital of your birth, but are available through the County Registrar-Recorder. If you were born at Torrance Memorial you will need to contact the County of Los Angeles. The information that you need to provide on the application to obtain a birth certificate includes:

  • Years to be searched
  • Name given at birth
  • Place of birth
  • Purpose of Search
  • Father's name
  • Maiden name of Mother

The fee is $17 per copy, payable to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. This information may change, so it is best that you call the LA County recorder at 562-462-2137 or go to http://www.lavote.net/RECORDER/BDM_Records.cfm.

Q. Will a doctor or nurse be able to answer my medical questions through e-mail?

A. It is always best to seek the advice from your own doctor or your doctor's clinical staff. Your doctor is familiar with your particular health status and current treatments. E-mail correspondence offers too little information for a clinician to make a health appraisal or a recommendation.

Q. How do I get a copy of my medical record?

A. To make arrangements for your medical record, please contact the Torrance Memorial Health Information Management department at 310-517-4721.

Q. I'm thinking about having my baby at Torrance Memorial. How do I get more information? Can I tour your facility?

A. You may call HealthLinks at 310-517-4711 and request our Family Birth Center materials and class schedule. Tours are held regularly and can be arranged through HealthLinks. To have your baby at Torrance Memorial you need to select an OB/Gyn who is on our medical staff. For information about doctors on our staff call our Physician Referral Service at 310-517-4700.

Q. Can I get reports about my family member's health condition via e-mail?

A. While you may write to a hospitalized family member through our website's patient e-mail feature, it is not possible for us to e-mail you a patient's health status. A patient's medical care is a confidential matter and e-mail does not provide the appropriate privacy we ensure for all patients.

Q. I was very happy with the care the hospital provided to my mother. Who can I write to thank for the compassionate care she was given?

A. You may write to our Chief Operating Officer Craig Leach at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance, CA 90505. Or if you prefer to e-mail your comments, you may send to Kelly.Curtis@tmmc.com and she will route your message to the appropriate managers.

Q. I don't see the answer to my question here. Who may I e-mail at the medical center?

A. Send your message to our public relations department in care of Kelly.Curtis@tmmc.com or use the Contact Us Button on this Website's Home Page.
