High School Volunteer Program

This unique program is for teens who are at least 14 years of age and in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade at the time of orientation. The High School Volunteer Program requires to commit to volunteering for a full one year of service with either a weekly 2 hour assigned shift during the weekdays or a 4 hour assigned shift on alternating weekends in our Escort Services department. Please note: the last opportunity to apply to the program is the spring orientation (usually February or March) of your 11th grade year.

How Do I Become A High School Student Volunteer

For a sneak peek at our commitments and to see if the program is right for you, view the High School Student Volunteer Program Information Sheet.

Application Process

Application to the high school volunteer program begins with your attendance at a student and parent/guardian information meeting. At this meeting you will hear about volunteering at Torrance Memorial as well as the requirements and commitment for joining. Important notes: 1) Based on past experience we expect to receive significantly more applications than we can accommodate at orientation. 2) In fairness to other families, we accept one application per household per orientation.

2015 Orientations

Fall Orientation Orientation Application Process

1) The first step to apply for the high school program is to attend a student and parent/guardian information meeting:

Thursday, September 3, 2015 or Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Health Conference Center on Torrance Memorial's campus. Park in the west parking structure. Health Conference Center is on your right (south) as you exit the structure. No RSVP required.

2) The Pre-application will be distributed and completed at the meeting if you are interested in joining.

Please only attend the student-parent information meeting if you are available to attend both dates of orientation below.

Note: Orientations are available to students who are in 9-11th grades at the time of orientation and at least age 14. The spring orientation is the last opportunity for current 11th graders to apply to our program.

3) Attend volunteer orientation (by invitation only):

Monday and Wednesday October 19 and October 21, 2015, 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Attendance required both days.

Please Note

There are no summer, short-term, episodic, hands-on patient care, shadowing or observation opportunities through the High School Student Volunteer Program at Torrance Memorial.
