Dr. Tood Shrader, Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Todd Shrader is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in treating sports-related injuries. He became interested in the field when his father, who was also an Orthopedic Surgeon, took him into the operating room when he was a kid to see what can happen to motorcycle accident victims. He recalls, "It was basically to keep me off motorcycles but the unexpected surprise was that it sparked my interest in this area of medicine."

Feeling strong ties to his community, family and friends, he earned his doctorate locally, from UC Irvine Medical School and completed his Residency at UCI Medical Center. As a college soccer player himself, focusing on sports medicine was a natural area of interest. Dr. Shrader earned his Fellowship from the distinguished Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Inglewood where he worked with many professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and IMSL. The culmination of his experience helped define his current practice, to focus on total joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. Now Dr. Shrader continues to serve his community through his affiliation with Torrance Memorial Hospital.

With high praise for Torrance Memorial, Dr. Shrader says, "The hospital is really a first-rate medical center; they recognize the importance of providing dedicated teams to each surgeon in the operating room so everyone knows the routine and each other's way of doing things. That really helps the surgery go smoothly and efficiently."

He adds, "[Torrance Memorial] invests in the most advanced technology and equipment available and that's great for patients as well as healthcare professionals."

Since Dr. Shrader is known for providing the most minimally invasive surgery available, he elaborates, "The hospital's advanced technology helps make it easier to leave more tendons and ligaments intact. Many of my patients have only a one-inch scar. That also means a quicker recovery time.

Dr. Shrader exudes a genuine interest, warmth and concern for his patients' well-being. It really comes through. He says, "There's nothing like helping someone regain their active lifestyle and do all the things they enjoy again. It's very fulfilling."

Summing up his experience with Torrance Memorial, he exalts, "I'm happy to be affiliated with Torrance Memorial, it's truly a wonderful asset for people throughout Southern California."
