The Center for Healthy Living Receives Gift

While still in the early stages, Torrance Memorial recently received a monetary boost to its complementary wellness program. The idea is to strengthen the hospital's offering of mind-body healing techniques such as massage therapy, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and Reiki. The Center for Healthy Living, established in Malaga Cove Plaza in Palos Verdes Estates, opened its doors this summer.

Following its opening, the Graziadio family - siblings Louis and Alida, Alida's husband, Steve, and Louis' daughter, Carra-came through with some wonderful financial support. "Our parents, George and Reva, were both big supporters and believers in the services provided to our community by Torrance Memorial," says Alida Calvillo. (The inpatient hospital's radiology center is named after the couple).

With a seed gift of $100,000, the family envisions great future opportunities for wellness lectures on the importance of the mind-body healing approach. "We want The Center for Healthy Living to offer education on managing stress and creating a healthy lifestyle to represent a solid foundation to identify the most current and robust programs of cutting-edge medical treatments that would go hand-in-hand with conventional treatments that we recognize are necessary to solving or mitigating the health problems many of us encounter in our lives," says Louis Graziadio. An advisory committee, including the Graziadio family, Torrance Memorial doctors, staff and community members will develop program topics for 2012.

"We plan to raise additional monies to help support Torrance Memorial Medical Center develop additional wellness programs in the future," Graziadio adds.
