South Bay Independent Physicians Medical Group, Inc. is a provider-owned and operated professional medical corporation with a primary mission of offering its members advocacy and access to preferred provider (PPO), exclusive provider (EPO) and point of service (POS) contracts.
Founded in 1983, SBIP has grown to a membership in excess of 460 providers encompassing the South Bay and Marina del Rey communities. In addition, under separate affiliation agreements, it provides contracting services to physicians located throughout the Los Angeles basin and the San Fernando Valley. SBIP providers are dedicated to rendering excellent health care within a system that incorporates both strong utilization and cost-containment measures and quality assurance programs.
The providers of SBIP represent all medical and surgical specialties, and are affiliated with Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
The administrative staff of SBIP currently manages over 70 health care agreements representing in excess of 2,000 payor groups (insurance carriers, multiple-employer union trusts, third party administrators, etc.). Administratively SBIP reviews all agreements for its members and evaluates/critiques the various terms and conditions found in those agreements. SBIP also negotiates the non-fee aspects of those agreements. The majority of the non-HMO patient visits to SBIP members result from the operation of these agreements.
SBIP, in cooperation with other medical groups throughout the greater Los Angeles market, has developed an innovative health care insurance product designed to meet the needs of the working uninsured population. Together with the cooperation of a national "A" rated carrier, SBIP is bringing this product to a market in desperate need of a cost effective, quality health insurance product for the working uninsured.
The members of SBIP are dedicated and will continue to develop new and creative products that are designed to offer the best in quality, cost effective health care delivered through the private practice setting.

Our primary purpose will continue to be the support and promotion of the independent, private practice of medicine to the betterment of the health care delivery system for our members and our patients.
To achieve this goal, we will continue to seek out the most advantageous contracts for our members that support the concept of the physician-patient relationship as the most important aspect of the delivery of medical care. To ensure the quality aspects of our goal for the best in health care expertise among our members, we will maintain the most thorough and detailed credentialing and recredentialing program as a required component of membership in our medical group.
