Financial Assistance

Charity Care for Low Income Patients

Consistent with our mission to serve the South Bay communities, low income patients who do not have health insurance or are under-insured, may qualify for Full or Partial Charity Care. We encourage patients and their families to call us or read further to find out if they qualify.

Am I Eligible for Assistance?

You must have received medically necessary services at Torrance Memorial. This means services which would normally be covered by health insurance. Emergency Services are always considered medically necessary.

Does My Income Qualify Me for Assistance?

Your family income and size determine whether you qualify. If your income is less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (see below), you will qualify for Full Charity Care. This means you won't have to pay Torrance Memorial for medically necessary hospital services. If your family income ranges from 200% to 350% of the Federal Poverty Level you will be eligible for a substantial discount and a no interest payment plan.

What Do I Do to Receive Help?

You must complete an application. For additional information call the Financial Counselor at 310-517-4784.

Could I Be Eligible for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families?

You must meet the eligibility standards for these two programs administered by the State of California.

Discounts for Uninsured Patients who Don't Qualify for Charity Care

Patients who don't have health insurance or government-sponsored plan, and don't qualify by income standards for the Torrance Memorial Charity Care Program, will be offered a substantial discount off their bill for medically necessary services. Patients will generally receive a 81% or more discount off their bill. Generally, patients must make a full payment at the discounted rate within 30 days from the date of service to qualify for this program.

This discount applies only to hospital bills and not to physicians and other clinical professions who bill you separately.

If you believe that you qualify for Charity Care or the Discount Program for Uninsured Patients, please ask the Registration Desk representative for an application (or download below) and call our Financial Counselor at 310-517-4784.

To learn more about becoming eligible for the Medi-Cal or Healthy Families program benefits, call 800-880-5305.
