Pain Management

Most pain can be controlled. It is very important that you communicate with your health care team when you have pain. Do not ignore pain. Please tell your health care team when your pain first begins. Your health care team will decide on the best course to manage any pain.

Your pain level will be checked throughout the day. You will be asked to rate your pain on a scale of "0" to "10." Please let us know what pain relief options have worked for you in the past and how well your pain is being managed.

Questions Your Health Care Team Will Ask You About Your Pain

  • Where do you feel pain?
  • How long have you had the pain?
  • How does the pain feel; is it dull, tender, aching, cramping, shooting, burning, radiating, throbbing, stabbing, tingly, gnawing, squeezing?
  • What makes the pain worse? What makes the pain better?
