Dr. John M. Tsao was born in Geneva, Switzerland and moved to the Los Angeles area as a child. He attended Loyola High School in Los Angeles. Dr. Tsao attended UCLA and received his B.A. in Zoology in 1956. He graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska in 1960 and interned at LA County/USC Medical Center. This was followed by a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology.

Between 1967-1968, Dr. Tsao served in Korea as a Major MC in the United States Army. He entered private practice in 1969. In addition to private practice, Dr. Tsao is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at USC Medical School. He is also on the Attending Staff at UCLA School of Medicine, and LA County/USC Medical Center.

Dr. Tsao is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is member of the Los Angeles County Medical Association, Society Of Graduate Internists of Los Angeles County Hospital, California Medical Association, Chinese Physicians Society, California Society of Internal Medicine, Phi Rho Sigma, American Society of Internal Medicine, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Endocrine Society, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He is a Fellow at the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Tsao has medical staff affiliations at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Torrance Memorial Hospital. During his long and distinguished career, Dr. Tsao has served as President of the Medical Board of California (1991) and in various executive capacities within the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
