Through its ADVANTAGE Program (free membership for adults 50 years and older), Torrance Memorial Medical Center offers a variety of programs for seniors aimed at improving wellness. Among the classes/workshops scheduled in the coming months are a senior
fitness/exercise class, a “Fall Prevention: Balance Improvement” class, an AARP driver safety program, a “maximizing your memory” workshop and a gentle exercise program designed to prevent joint degeneration. Additionally, ADVANTAGE offers Medicare education seminars, an advanced directive for healthcare workshop and a class to prepare for the birth of a grandchild. For more information, call 310-517-4666, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Also through HealthLinks—a centralized location for health-related information, products and services—anyone can pick up community resource packets with lists and supplemental information, much of it geared toward seniors. For instance, the “Skilled Nursing Facilities” packet gives a local listing of skilled nursing facilities and also includes a “California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform” packet, a Caregiver Support Group flyer and a brochure on the “California Nursing Home Search.” For more information, stop by the HealthLinks store on the first floor of the hospital’s West Tower, or call 310-325-9110, ext. 4225.
Visit www.thipa.com and discover direct links to Torrance Hospital IPA support groups and articles about health conditions and health news. You’ll also find classes on 2013
Medicare health benefits and Medicare Advantage plan options. In addition, you’ll see healthy recipes and an index of health issues from A-Z. Call 310-257-7250 for further information.
