Torrance Memorial Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary Presents $201,000 For New Main Tower Healing Garden

Torrance Memorial Medical Center's Volunteer Auxiliary presented a $201,000 check to the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation at its 2013 Auxiliary Board Installation Lunch. The donation will be allocated toward the naming of new Main Tower Auxiliary Healing Garden as part of a $1 million, multi-year pledge. The 800-member Auxiliary collected the money through various fundraisers and proceeds from the Torrance Memorial Gift Shop.

The Auxiliary Healing Garden will include a flourishing, water-efficient landscape and a peaceful fountain, providing tranquility for patients, families and other members of the Torrance Memorial community to enjoy. It will serve as a restorative space for patients, where they can relax and enjoy the trees, flowers and other integral parts of the landscape.

"We are extremely grateful to all of our wonderful volunteers for the daily work and contribution to building this wonderful feature of the new Patient Tower," said Mary Matson, director of Torrance Memorial Volunteer Services. "Because they have already helped so many through their efforts, it's fitting that so many patients and visitors will benefit from this peaceful, healing space."

In addition to the check presentation, the Auxiliary announced the installation of its 2013 board: Sunni Won, vice president of membership; Judy Shoemaker, legislative chairperson; Valerie Punzal, chair of special events; Mimi Brody, parliamentarian; Beth Zager, vice president, hospital services; Pablo Diaz, treasurer; Schola Tsai, president elect; Spirit White, co-chair, Torrance Memorial Gift Shop; David Sato, program chair; Jeannine Frandsen, co-chair; Diana Takenaga, historian; Susan Lohn, president; Donna Cohen, secretary; and Allen Scarpetti, chair, public relations.
