If you are at risk for type-2 diabetes, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention
Program provides a supportive environment in a small group setting to
learn how to adopt healthy habits to reduce your risk.
The year-long program begins with 16 one-hour weekly classroom sessions,
followed by 8 monthly sessions. A trained lifestyle coach helps participants
learn strategies for healthy eating, physical activity and other lifestyle changes.
The goal is for participants to lose 7% of their body weight and increase
physical activity to 150 minutes per week. Session topics include:
- Ways to eat less
- Problem solving
- Ways to stay motivated
- Being active: A way of life
- You can manage stress
- Four keys to healthy eating out
