The best way to avoid infections diseases is through prevention.
Simple steps inlcude:
WASH HANDS OFTEN with soap and water. If not possible, use an alcoholbased hand rub. This
is particularly important after being in a public environment, on public
transportation or around potentially sick people.
GET VACCINATED against diseases, like influenza (flu), for which a vaccine is available.
Keep up-to-date on vaccines.
AVOID CONTACT WITH SICK PEOPLE. “Social distancing does work,” notes Dr. Milefchik. He recommends
staying three to five feet away from an obviously sick person.
AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE, particularly your mouth, eyes and nose, especially during cold and flu season.

in this area than they realize. Basic things like exercise, eating right
and getting enough sleep are so important.
DON’T SMOKE, and if you choose to drink, do so in moderation, says Dr. Nakkim.

COVER YOUR MOUTH when you cough. Instead of coughing into your hand, cough into your elbow
to better contain droplets.
ADEQUATE SLEEP and oral fluids is even more important when you are sick with the flu.
Also, avoid public places if you are contagious; stay home until you feel
better. If you are seriously ill, you may need to see your doctor or come
to the ER,” says Dr. Nakkim.
