Bonding With Breastfeeding
Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
Breastfeeding your baby can be a rewarding experience. Studies show that breastfeeding has significant nurturing and nutritional benefits for your baby. In addition, breastfeeding provides health benefits that are extremely beneficial to your baby's growth and development.
Nursing your baby is a learned skill for both mother and infant requiring time and patience. While many women are able to successfully breastfeed soon after delivery, some women need assistance to breastfeed their baby.
Torrance Memorial Medical Center Health Resource Center, HealthLinks, has a lactation (breastfeeding) support service center to help a mother with skills to help her to breastfeed successfully.
The Breastfeeding Mothers' rooms have a private area with comfortable chairs, a refrigerator for storage of breast milk storage, digital baby weight scales and educational information for new parents.

For a variety of reasons, some women experience difficulties when breastfeeding. For these women, breast pumps and other breastfeeding accessories can ease the discomfort or complications that result from inadequate milk supply, engorged or infected breasts, flat or sore nipples, or other special circumstances. Torrance Memorial Health Resource Center, HealthLinks, stocks a large supply of breast pumps and replacement parts, adapter kits, breast cups, nursing bras, pads, pillows and other accessories that can help improve the breastfeeding experience for both mother and baby. HealthLinks also rents hospital grade breast pumps.
