Fitness & Exercise Program Descriptions

Bones for Life uses gentle, safe and easy exercises to help prevent joint degeneration and is taught by a guild-certified Feldenkrais practitioner and registered physical therapist. The classes are offered in a series and meet once a week. Cost: $65 for 6 sessions. For more information or to register, call 310-517-4701.

Healthy Ever After is a nutrition program for children and families! These fun, interactive classes on nutrition and fitness will be taught by registered dietitians and guest instructors including a psychologist and exercise physiologist.  The program promotes healthy lifestyle choices by providing useful information and practical tips through hands-on learning, fun exercises, parent and child activities and more.

For children aged 9 to 12 and their families; open to all, not just for those seeking weight management.  Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Families do not have to start at any particular time, or finish all 12 months. Offered on one Tuesday per month - February 9, March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9, December 14. $30 initial class, $10 each additional class. Flexible Body/Flexible Mind uses the Feldenkrais Method to each gentle movements which tap into the body-mind connection creating more flexibility of movement. Appropriate for all fitness levels, this class helps facilitate freer, easier movement in a pleasurable way. This is a floor exercise class. Fee: $60 for six sessions. Qi Gong (chee-gong) is an ancient chinese discipline used for healing, enhancing the body's energy flow, reducing stress and improving general well being. Participants will learn breathing and visualization techniques to clear the mind and calm the body. This method of stress reduction can easily be incorporated into your workday as well as daily life. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a sophisticated Chinese exercise that inspires physical and mental well-being. Originally designed for self defense, T'ai Chi has been refined into a slow, graceful, rhythmic exercise which has the effect of promoting good health in all -- young and old, strong and weak. The class is eight sessions, the cost is $55.00 per person or $50.00 per person for ADVANTAGE members. For more information, call 310-517-4666.

Yoga Basics is a gentle form of exercise that has many health benefits. Yoga tones the muscles and increases flexibility. It produces deep relaxation and can be a powerful stress reducer. Fees: Prepay six classes for $48, or pay $9 per class.  For more information call 310-517-4711.

Chair Yoga gives the benefits of yoga exercises adapted to a seated position. Breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques are included.
