Baby Steps
- If you are having a baby at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in the near future, this is for you. A tour of maternity services and an opportunity to have your questions answered is provided. The free orientation is offered two times a month. Registration required call 310-517-4702.

Breastfeeding Questions and Beyond - Now that your baby is home, you may have many questions on the next step in your breastfeeding relationship. Bring your baby and breastfeeding concerns to this three-hour class with a lactation consultant. All questions related to nursing are welcome. This class will help make breastfeeding easier for you and your baby. This is the third class in the Pre-natal Breastfeeding Series or it can be taken as a stand alone class for $25. Breastfeeding Clinic - Receive individualized assistance and problem solve with an experienced lactation consultant in a small group setting. Free baby weight checks available. Reservations are required for this popular clinic that meets Mondays and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. Fee $25 per session. Please call 310-517-4743 to make a reservation.

Grandparenting is a one-session class designed to help you prepare for the birth of your grandchild. Discussion topics will include your role as a grandparent, care of baby, medical updates and safety, (e.g., car seats, airbags and home childproofing). The cost is $15/person or $25/couple. Infant/Child CPR is a three-hour workshop that teaches life-saving skills for infants and children, such as CPR, and basic care of children in emergencies. The workshop includes what to do in case of choking, when to call paramedics, and what to tell them. Class is taught in both English and Spanish. The cost is $25.00/person. Mornings for Moms is a support group for new moms. Bring your baby of 4 months or younger and discuss topics of interest to mothers of newborns and network with other new moms. This group offers resources for new parents. The cost is $30 for six sessions (or $5 per session), and the group meets most Thursdays from 10 am to noon. Please call 310-517-4702 for reservations.

Newborn Baby Care is designed to help people learn about their new role as parents. This two-session class focuses on enjoying your baby while learning the basics of bathing and diapering through demonstration and practice. Normal newborns, choosing a pediatrician, and health and safety issues will also be covered. Adoptive parents are welcome. The cost is $45 per couple. For more information, call 310-517-4702. A local pediatrician will be available during 2nd session to answer questions and talk about those first few days after baby's arrival.

Prenatal Breastfeeding is a wonderful experience for both you and your baby. This three-part series includes two classes to prepare mom and her partner before the baby is born for a successful experience. You learn the advantages of breastfeeding, learn how to overcome difficulties, prevent problems, and other tips for success. The third class is offered after delivery for mom and baby to offer support and get your questions answered. The cost is $60 per couple. Prepared Childbirth is a class to help you understand the process of birth, learn skills to help you in labor and delivery and after. Classes are offered 2 week nights for 4 weeks; Saturday mornings for 2 weeks or all in one day. Call early in your pregnancy to start classes in your seventh month. The cost is $95 per couple. Preparing for Multiples is a one session program, for parents who are expecting more than one baby. A practical approach to preparing room, supplies, and equipment needed for multiple babies. This is not a preparing for childbirth class. Many hints for caring for more than one at once and getting over that newborn hump will be given. Class is taught by two experienced moms of multiples, one of whom is a psychologist. The cost is $60 per couple for both Preparing for Multiples and Parenting Multiples. Parenting Multiples: The First 9 Months is a class that will review critical topics covered in Preparing for Multiples as they apply to your new infants. We will provide the opportunity to discuss your specific concerns in an open and caring environment, exchange ideas and form new relationships. Repeat Prepared Childbirth is a one session program, offered as a refresher course for couples who participated in a Prepared Childbirth class within the past four years. The cost is $30 per couple. For more information, call 310-517-4702.

Sibling Preparation is for children three to six years old, who will soon have a new baby brother or sister. Classes are held once a month on Saturday mornings. The cost is $20.00 for the first child and $10 for the second sibling, one parent or both may attend with the child. For more information, call 310-517-4702.

SuperSitter is a six-hour baby-sitting class for boys and girls age 12 to 16. The course covers responsibility, age-appropriate activities, and basic safety issues. The cost is $25.00 per child. Classes are held as needed - for more information, call 310-517-4701.
