CPR is offered to health care professionals and to the community. Upon successful completion of class, an American Heart Association card is given.
- Heartsaver is a four-hour course that teaches basic heartsaving and one-person rescue. The cost is $32.50/person including AHA guide.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS Certification) is an eight-hour course designed for health care professionals. This course covers basic heartsaver, two-person rescue, infant and child CPR and obstructed airway. The fee is $45.00/person.
- BLS Recertification is a four-hour course to review all BLS topics, basic heartsaver, two-person rescue, infant and child CPR, and obstructed airway. You must have a current BLS card to attend. First Aid teaches how to care for victims of injuries or sudden illness. Topics include uncontrolled bleeding, burns, poisoning, shock, and choking emergencies. A certificate will be issued upon successful course completion. First Aid certification is valid for three years. The cost is $25.00/person including course textbook. Infant/Child CPR is a three-hour workshop that teaches life-saving skills for infants and children, such as CPR, and basic care of children in emergencies. The workshop includes what to do in case of choking, when to call paramedics, and what to tell them. Class is offered in both English and Spanish. Medications 101 is a free educational lecture by a Torrance Memorial pharmacist. Topics include myths and facts about combining herbs, over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs; age-related effects of drugs; generic versus name brand medication. Reflexology is a dynamic healing art that helps to refresh, renew, and most importantly relax the entire body. In Foot Reflexology the history, origin, and theories of reflexology are taught and students learn how to stimulate the entire body by simply working on the feet. In Hand and Ear Reflexology students add to their knowledge of relaxation techniques by learning how to rejuvenate the body's energies through stimulating points on the hands and ears. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a sophisticated Chinese exercise that inspires physical and mental well-being.
