Torrance Memorial Medical Center operates one of the busiest interventional radiology programs in the South Bay. Interventional radiology procedures (also called image-guided surgery) utilize image guidance to safely accomplish minimally invasive procedures for diagnosis or management of disease. A variety of diagnostic and treatment procedures are performed at the Graziadio Imaging Center including:
- Stroke Therapy
- Peripheral & carotid angiography
- Uterine fibroid embolization
- Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty for spinal fractures
- Balloon angioplasty and stent placement
- Stent placements for peripheral and visceral angiography
- Insertion of specialized IV catheters including chest ports and tunneled vascular access devices
- Chemoembolization
- PICC line placement
- Temporary dialysis catheter placement
- Drain insertion
- Artery embolization
- Thrombolysis
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement
- Feeding tube placement
- Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunts (TIPS)
- Therapeutic Nuclear Procedures
- Ultrasound-guided thoracentesis
- Ultrasound-guided paracentesis

Many of the above procedures are performed in our Flat Panel Interventional Suite. Flat panel technology offers the latest in interventional imaging for diagnosis and treatment of disease. The flat panel detectors provide crisper details of internal structures over a wider viewing area. This results in the need for fewer "passes" by the CT or MRI scanner, and less exposure to radiation and a smaller dose of IV contrast material for the patient.
