Pathology

An accurate diagnosis is one of the most important tools in the evaluation of someone suspected to have cancer.  The Pathology Laboratory at Torrance Memorial is staffed by physicians who have extensive experience in examining tissue specimens to pinpoint the type and nature of the suspected cancer.  Our specialists maintain relationships with the pathology departments of the country's most prestigious academic and research facilities so that expert second opinions are readily available and an accurate diagnosis is delivered as quickly as possible.  The majority of tumor diagnosis are made within 24 hours after receiving the tissue biopsy in our lab.

In addition, all new cancer diagnosis are shown to multiple pathologists to further ensure the accuracy of the diagnosis.  Finally, if a diagnostically challenging tumor is found, our pathologists will consult with the country's most renowned experts in a particular pathological field for a second opinion.
