Inside the Endovascular Surgical Suite

Endovascular Surgical Suite

Torrance Memorial Medical Center has opened a state-of-the-art Endovascular Surgical Suite that is the most advanced of its kind west of the Mississippi.

The Endovascular Surgical Suite is unique because of the imaging capabilities it offers, combined with the ability to conduct minimally invasive surgery. It was designed to facilitate percutaneous procedures in which treatment is provided through small punctures, rather than open incisions. The benefits of endovascular surgery include smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times.

Procedures to be performed in the Endovascular Surgical Suite include treatment for aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease, orthopedic conditions and diabetes-related complications, such as kidney graphs. Surgeons may also perform traditional "open" surgery in the suite, if needed.

Because the Suite houses a dedicated nurse's station and radiology technologist's booth, surgical staff members can provide highly precise information to assist surgeons during procedures. Sophisticated diagnostic software and video equipment allow surgeons to communicate "real time" with pathologists and videoconference with specialists anywhere throughout the world.

The new operating room will accommodate more than 1,300 cases a year. In addition to including the latest imaging capabilities, the Endovascular Surgical Suite offers ergonomic and technologically advanced features such as a sliding surgical pedestal table, ceiling mounted booms for gases and lighting, a permanent anesthesiology station and teleconferencing technology.
