Torrance Memorial Certified Stroke Center
Torrance Memorial Medical Center is the only hospital in the city of Torrance awarded The Joint Commission's Certificate of Distinction as a Primary Stroke Center. At Torrance Memorial, a highly coordinated, specially trained team of paramedics, emergency physicians, neurologists, radiologists, nurses, and pharmacists work together to provide fast, effective treatment within the first crucial "golden" hour a patient arrives at the hospital doors. And once the emergency is over, our medical team and rehabilitation therapists continue to work together to ensure the best recovery possible.
Treating stroke is a race against time. Rapid, expert diagnosis and treatment is critical in the effort to reduce serious brain damage. Torrance Memorial's Melanie and Richard Lundquist Emergency Department is open 24 hours every day, and serves as a paramedic base station. Patients who come to the Torrance Memorial Emergency Department with symptoms of stroke have immediate access to the extensive capabilities of our certified stroke team to diagnose and provide intervention.

Don't wait. Don't second-guess yourself. Don't drive the patient to the hospital yourself. The dispatchers at 911 will tell you what to do, and our paramedics will work with the Emergency Department to begin treatment even before the patient arrives at the hospital.
