Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute

Complete Cardiovascular Surgical Care in your Community

Welcome to the Cardiovascular Surgery Program, a division of the Lundquist Cardiovascular Institute at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. As one of the top-rated programs in Los Angeles County completing a number of surgeries per year, our highly skilled teams of cardiac surgeons, cardiac care nurses and other medical staff strive to give each patient a personalized and compassionate experience from the moment they enter our doors.

Available to our teams on-site is the latest medical technology - from advanced imaging capabilities with our 64-slice CT scanner and MRI machines in our Radiology department, to hybrid operating rooms that allow for multifaceted, complex procedures as needed. Specially trained Cardiac Care teams take pride in assuring that every patient receives the best possible care and achieves the highest level of recovery. Our Cardiovascular Surgery Program currently offers a full arrangement of surgical options, including:

In addition to surgical options, we also offer comprehensive treatment for cardiovascular diseases including:

  • Stent Placements
  • Arrhythmias
  • Diabetes

A Collaborative Approach, One Patient at a Time

Our surgical program offers a Total Care team approach - from on-site cardiologists, interventional radiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, advanced practice nurses, nurse practitioners, dedicated OR and Cardiovascular floor nurses, dietitians, occupational therapists and physical therapists.

Nothing is more evident of this unique method than the weekly Cardiac Surgery Conferences that occur every Wednesday morning. Here, clinicians gather to discuss each surgical case-in depth - reading imaging studies, medical history and discussing the best course of action to optimize treatment for each patient. Sometimes these options move away from surgery and into less invasive procedures like Stent Placements and Cardiac Rehabilitation. Patients can be assured that a recommendation from their physician is the culmination of best options, practices and expert advice.

Beyond Treatment

We don't just treat our patients, but our patients and their families. Two essential positions were recently added to the program to optimize efficiency and patient satisfaction.

  • Our Cardiac Surgery Nurse Liaison is a cardiac nurse who acts as a main contact and follows patients through the entire surgical process.
  • The Nurse Liaison also conducts pre-operative classes, facility tours and maintains active communication with families throughout the patient's procedure.
  • Our Nurse Practitioner is available when a patient's physician might be unavailable, allowing the best continuum of care throughout their stay.
