Center of Excellence
When making a major health care decision, nothing is more important than finding a team you can trust. In July of 2008, Torrance Memorial's Bariatric Surgery Program was designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
In order to become a Center of Excellence, Torrance Memorial underwent a rigorous review, demonstrating that we are able to accommodate the special needs of the bariatric patient and provide a multidisciplinary approach. Our patients receive a total program of care from nutritionists, psychologists, dietitians, cardiologists and other bariatric care specialists. This designation is a result of extensive programmatic review.
Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery
 Torrance Memorial's expertise and high quality of care also earned us recognition as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery®, only approximately 37 California facilities have been selected as a Blue Distinction Center. This designation is awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality health care.
Designation as Blue Distinction Centers® means these facilities' overall experience and aggregate data met objective criteria established in collaboration with expert clinicians' and leading professional organizations' recommendations.
