At present, both Dr. Takahashi and Dr. Klein have been approved for the Centers of Excellence designation as bariatric surgeons.

Aileen Takahashi, M.D. is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Torrance Memorial.  She completed her general surgery training at Los Angeles County and USC Medical Center. During her residency at USC she spent an additional year in fellowship training in Trauma and Critical Care. She then went to UCLA where she spent a year focused on Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. She is Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She is a Candidate member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. Her interests include advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery.

Stanley Klein, M.D.
is an active member of the Department of Surgery. He has in excess of twenty years' experience in all aspects of the evaluation and surgical management of the obese patient. Dr. Klein is board certified in General, Vascular and Surgical Critical Care. Throughout his career, Dr. Klein has been active in teaching medical students, residents and other health professionals about the care and treatment of the obese patient. Dr. Klein has contributed to over 200 peer-reviewed publications including the American Society of Bariatric Surgery, and multiple others dealing with surgery for the digestive tract. Dr. Klein is consistently recognized by his patients as a compassionate, energetic and dedicated surgeon who is committed to excellence in the care of his patients.

Mercedeh Baghai, M.D. has practiced as a general and bariatric surgeon in the South Bay.  After graduating from medical school at UC San Francisco, Dr. baghai completed a surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  She subsequently completed a two year surgical fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Gastro intestinal and Bariatric Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta.  Dr. Baghai's expretise and interest is in the area of advanced minimally invasive abdominal surgery for various gastrointestinal conditions as well as Bariatric Surgery.    Dr. Baghai maintains her own solo practice in Torrance.

Houman Solomon, M.D. completed his Doctorate of Medicine as well as two Master of Science degrees (Pathology and Applied Physiology) at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago in 2002.  After graduating from medical school, he completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California.  Dr. Solomon is board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.  He also completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery) at Stanford University Medical Center.
