Las Amigas is a support group of the Torrance Memorial Health Care Foundation, an organization that provides philanthropic support for Torrance Memorial Medical Center. Recognized as a "Top 100 Hospital" four times by Solucient, Torrance Memorial has been providing quality medical care to the South Bay community since 1925.
About Las Amigas
Founded in 1980 by a core group of dedicated women, Las Amigas offers volunteer opportunities that fit the lifestyle of anyone with an interest in giving back to our community. Las Amigas enjoys a diverse membership - working professionals, full-time parents - all united in the common goal of maintaining a high standard of medical excellence in the South Bay.
Las Amigas raises funds for Torrance Memorial through special events and projects. Las Amigas members select the events and projects that most interest them. Meetings are held several times a year and offer opportunities for socializing and hearing guest speakers on a wide range of topics. Las Amigas offers community residents the opportunity to become involved without minimum volunteer hours requirements - you decide how involved you want to be, at a level that fits your lifestyle.
Mission Statement
Las Amigas of the Torrance Memorial Medical Center Health Care Foundation shall promote awareness, support and raise funds for Torrance Memorial by assisting with the planning and implementation of special events (as approved by the Board of Directors of the Health Care Foundation.)
Holiday Festival
Our signature event, the
Holiday Festival has been a prestigious South Bay institution since 1983. Held in late November or early December, this six-day event features the display and silent auction of dozens of beautifully decorated trees donated by community organizations, local businesses and friends of Torrance Memorial. The trees create a winter wonderland on the campus of the hospital and remain on display until the Festival concludes. In addition, Las Amigas members organize a professionally choreographed Fashion Show luncheon and evening Gala - highlights of the season. Additionally, a holiday boutique features beautifully handcrafted decorations and visits from Santa, entertainment and refreshments are included in the Festival tradition. Entertainment from local schools fill the tent, and a lunch with Santa for kids help to bring in the holiday spirit. Thousands of people attend Holiday Festival events every year. The Las Amigas members are instrumental in making it the premiere fundraising event.
General Meetings
Las Amigas members and their guests are invited to attend general meetings throughout the year. The meetings feature planned programs on such topics as heart health, skin care, travel and more.
